Elody Gyekis was born in Lewisburg, PA and grew up here in Penns Valley. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Ceramics from Penn State with honors in Visual Arts and Civic and Community Engagement and minors in Sociology and Civic and Community Engagement. Her artwork includes painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, apparel, graphic design, and photography.
She is currently a graduate student at the New York Academy of Art, she formerly held a resident position at the Green Drake Gallery and Arts Center. In addition to fine artwork, she has been a Community Arts Organizer and Mural Painter for five murals across Pennsylvania, including the Valley Roots Community Mural Project 2008 in Millheim, the Dreams Take Flight Mural Project 2010 in State College, and three murals in Harrisburg. She has also worked on various other community projects, including a small mural in an orphanage in the Dominican Republic and assisted Natalia Pilato with her "Children are the Seeds of the Future" mural in Williamsport, PA and the "Window Shop Hop" in State College, PA.
